Summary[]

Kakrax reference

Kakrax, or Mare anguis is a species of barbed sea snake that inhabits the oceans of the jungle planet Heptin. The majority of adult Kakrax grow between 28-29 feet, with the largest recorded Kakrax measuring 39 feet in length. They have long tails and heads, as well as very long jaws containing over a hundred sharp teeth. With the exception of the tail and fins, the entire body is protectively covered by a layer of hardened exoskeleton. Their eyes, while relatively large, do not work very well. Instead, the Kakrax’s method of navigation and “sight” is the use of echolocation.

Kakrax swim through the water with the use of their tail and two large curved fins. Whether the Kakrax wishes to slowly glide through the ocean or pursue prey at rapid speeds, it uses these fins to assist in motion and direction.

The most notorious feature of the Kakrax is its barbs. Embedded in the dorsal region, the Kakrax wields four large and incredibly sharp barbs. While the purpose of these barbs seems to be primarily defensive, they have been observed to be used for hunting on occasion.

Habitat[]

Kakrax can be found all over the deep oceans of Heptin. During the summer breeding season, however, Kakrax tend to migrate North.

Behaviour[]

Kakrax generally predate small fish and aquatic fauna, avoiding larger creatures (including humans, fortunately). However, if hungry, Kakrax can become incredibly hostile, and have been documented attacking humans and their ships. This is especially the typical of female Kakrax, who are easily aggravated pregnant. If a Kakrax is nearby, it’s best to just steer clear of it. Ultimately, they have an unpredictable nature.

Reproduction[]

Kakrax are viviparous, meaning the young are born alive in the water. Usually a pregnant Kakrax will give birth to at least three young.

History and importance[]

At one point during the early colonization of Heptin, it was considered by a few (mostly military) higher-ups to hunt and kill the Kakrax due the large amount of problems they were causing the colonists in the seas. This idea was quickly shut down by the Keonic Colonization Division, as the Kakrax are incredibly essential and important to Heptin's marine ecosystem. Currently, advanced sonar tracking technology has been put in use in order to locate Kakrax during sea voyages, so that humans might to stay clear.
